According to the Ayurvedic belief the spot made by piercing the nostril is associated with the female reproductive organs. It is generally believed that woman who have there nose pierced on the left side experience less pain while delivering the child and less menstrual pain.
According to Indian traditions and culture, nose rings are considered as one of the sign of marriage, and is an integral part of traditional bridal jewellery. Piercing the nose is considered as a way of honoring Parvathi, the Hindu Goddess of marriage.
